Belper Indoor Car Boot Sale, 2nd Sunday of the month restarts this Sunday.

This Sunday (11th September 2011) sees the return of Belper Indoor Car Boot Sale at Belper Leisure Centre. In case you did not know, Belper carboot sale takes place on the SECOND Sunday of the month from September through to May.
Note there is NO car boot sale in June, July or August.

Buyers are allowed in from 8am to 12 noon.
Sellers are allowed in from 7am to set up their pitches.

This is a small/medium sized car boot. Of course Tansley Car Boot is one of the largest local car boots but that is outdoors. Then there is Willington Car Boot Sale which is every Saturday and Monday and Shardlow Car Boot that takes place on Bank Holidays in the Summer time.

Here is a photograph I took in May at Belper Indoor Car Boot :

Because it's an indoor car boot sale its not affected by the weather unlike outdoor car boots where
nobody turns up because its raining! This car boot is always popular whatever the weather.

New Driving video - Derby Streets by car. Pear Tree to Costco on Pride Park.

Here is the latest video in my series of "Derby Streets by Car". I started doing these videos back in 2007 and they seem quite popular. See my first Derby Streets by car video. Filmed before such things as HD video on YouTube.
Yes I know you can use Google Streetview to see streets but thats out of date (Derby streets captured by them 3 years ago!). Also its not quite the same as seeing the places as though you were driving yourself.
Perhaps you used to live in Derby and wondered what the place looks like today well now you can see!

This video was recorded on Sunday 31st July 2011, Its recorded at 1080p HD so if you have a very fast broadband connection and a fast PC then you can view it at 720 or 1080 at full screen mode.

The drive starts on St Thomas Road in the Pear Tree area of Derby and ends at Costco which is on Pride Park.
Some points of interest (may be !)
0:02 -That yellow shop used to be Terry J Aquatics.

0:05 - The Pear Tree Inn pub on the left.
0:11 - Lister House Surgery on left.
0:22 - Former Sherwood foresters pub on right (now a Sikh temple)
0:28 - Silly Sids on left
0:43 - The Oasthouse pub, a Whitbread Table Table restaurant.
0:57 - Pear Tree Railway Station on left.
1:04 - On the right here is a large B&Q and a recently expanded Sainsburys.
2:20 - Spider Bridge Island, Also The Mitre Pub ahead
2:26 - Allenton Market, Soon to be a large Tescos!
3:11 - New Ascot Drive fire Station being built on left.
3:16 - B & M store on left
3:27 - Birds Bakery on left
3:44 - Arriva Derby bus depot on right
3:51 - Former B&Q being demolished (after many years!)
4:29 - Ahead is Pride Park Stadium, Home of Derby County (The Rams)
5:24 - Entering Costco Car park.
In costco I got two large Jacket Potatoes with two fillings for £2.50, How can they do it for that price !

The Driving video - Pear Tree to Costco Derby:

In the video you will notice I have indicated each road name as we drive around, this should help you get an idea of where things are. If not then you can also use my detail driving route map below :
Of couse its not the most straight forward route to get from A to B but I was trying to capture some roads that I have not recorded before.

Here is the driving route for this video:

Derby to Tansley Car Boot, A driving time-lapse video.

I have just uploaded my latest video. Filmed last Sunday, its a time-lapse driving video. The video starts in Derby and ends at Tansley Car Boot. Its not the most direct route by the way, Yes I know I could do it quicker !

I'm sure if you are into local car boots then you will have heard of Tansley car boot as its the largest one I know of in Derbyshire, If you would like to know more about this car boot such as an accurate map location then have a look at my Tansley Car Boot Sale page.

At 03:12 in the video I have highlighted the current cost of fuel as I think in years to come we will look back on this and be amazed at how cheap it used to!!!

My video of Derby to Tansley Car Boot Sale:

This time-lapse video is made from 2429 photographs.
First photograph taken at 8.14 (Derby)
Last photograph taken at 9.03 (Tansley)
---------------------------
Camera used:
Hardware Modified Canon Ixus 430
Photographs taken at 1600x1200 pixels
The jpeg files sizes are between 69Kb to 407Kb, image size varies depending on brightness and complexity of the image.
The 2429 Photographs were 526Mb in total
Stored onto a Sandisk Ultra III 8Gb SD Card

Software Editing:
I processed the photographs in Corel Paint Shop Pro v11 using a recorded script combined with the Batch Process function as I have described in my blog:

Once all the images were processed I used Sony Vegas 9 Pro to edit this video. I used the "Import Image Sequence" facility that is available in the Import Media panel.

Hope you like the drive.

How to play music from your iPhone through your car stereo using a Belkin FM Transmitter.

Belkin FM Transmitter for playing iPhone through your car stereo.

How to play music from your iPhone through your car stereo.

My car stereo has a pair of AUX IN RCA sockets on flying leads at the back for connecting audio equipment to it but unfortunately at the time I installed the stereo I did not think I would ever need access to them so these are pretty much inaccessible without taking the dashboard to bits, not a task I really want to do.
So the easy way to be able to play music from the iPhone via the Car stereo is to use something called a FM Transmitter. There are many models of these available, some are dedicated for use with an iPhone/iPod where as others will work with any mp3 player via a standard headphone socket.

The model I opted for was a Belkin ClearScan FM Transmitter which I bought second hand from ebay. This consists of a small (about 3”) unit with a flying lead emerging from each end. Once lead has the standard iPhone docking plug on it which connects to the bottom of the iPhone. The other lead has a cigarette lighter plug on it.
See the photograph for how it looks. I dont think they make this model any more as there is a new one called the Belkin TuneCast Auto 4 for iPod/iPhone.

What does it do?
The FM transmitter takes the audio output from the iPhone and modulates it onto an FM radio signal which can be picked up via your car stereo. The transmission range is limited to just a few meters (as its designed to be used in a car). Its as simple as that really.

How to use the Belkin ClearScan iPhone FM Transmitter.
1: Remove the cigarette lighter from your dashboard, plug in the cigarette lighter plug from the Belkin unit into your cars cigarette lighter socket.
2: With the iPhone powered on plug the iPhone plug into the bottom of your iPhone.
3: Press the C button on the front of the Belkin unit and it will scan for a clear frequency and show it on the display. In my photograph it has found 107.0MHz is free to use.
4: Use the manual tune mode on your stereo to tune to the frequency it has found. So in my photograph tune in the stereo to 107.0MHz.
You will hear silence at this point.
5: Play some music on the iPhone by selecting the iPod icon then Playlists, Srtists or Songs.
You should now hear your music on your car stereo, Magic isn’t it!
If its an mp3 you are playing and your stereo has RDS then it will also show the song title.

This particular Belkin model has an extra feature in that it uses RDS to send the tile of the track being played to the stereo, so when you select a track it scrolls the song name across the screen.

Note: The volume on the iPhone can not be adjusted when connected to this device, its fixed at a standard volume.

I found this bit of harware very easy to use and for anyone out there who wants to play their iPhone music through their car stereo its perfect.

Willington car boot sale every Saturday and even Mondays !

This is Willington Car Boot Sale which takes place every Saturday morning, Yes SATURDAY !

This is held at Willington Sports and Social Club, There is a small amount of parking available at the back of the club and a large field opposite the car boot sale. Also a lot of buyers seem to park on Twyford Road (A5132) but you need to be careful parking on this road as its a rather fast road.
In good weather there are so many booters that they are on every bit of space around including the road side.

At one point this car boot sale was taking place on some land off Frizams Lane but they have not used that for a long time. This is one of those car boots that is not too large that you don't know where to start but not too small that there is hardly anything to buy. Or at least that's what I've found, being outdoors the weather is going to make a difference to how many booters are there.

Willington Car Boot used to have a website with lots of details about this car boot which was on www.krazybooters.com but that seems to be dead now.

The Saturday boot sale runs from March to the end of October.
Sellers are allowed to setup from 7am and buyers are allowed in at 8am
Entry price (on foot) is 50p for Adults, Kids are free.
A sellers Pitch is £7 for Cars and £10 for Vans and Trailers.

Willington Monday Car Boot Sale
The Monday car boot sale runs from June to September.
Monday sellers are allowed to setup from 9am and buyers are allowed in at 9:30am

As with most smaller car boots this starts to thin out at dinner time so get there early.

How to find Willington Car Boot Sale.
If you are viewing this blog on an iPhone in Safari then click the link below for a exact mapping point that you can use for driving directions on your iPhone.

Smartphone Drop Pin Mapping link here.

I have listed other local car boots on my blog, use the search box at the top/left of my blog to find them. Tansley being the most famous car boot.

Derby Car Boot Sale - Better Boots, A new car boot for Derby!

This photograph was taken at the very first Betterboots Derby Car Boot Sale which was on Sunday 9th August 2009.

UPDATE October 11th : This car boot is now closed until spring 2010

This car boot sale is not too bad a size and is a good alternative to the one on Derby Cattle Market. Seemed to be well organised, plenty of booters to look around.

The difference with this car boot and others is that there is no need to get up at 5am and struggle trying to set up your items to sell while people are trying to buy stuff from you, looks like they have addressed this problem by having the booters setup time 8am-9am and only then are the buyers allowed in.

Location :
Its just off the main Nottingham Road between Borrowash and Risley
Sat Nav postcode : DE72 3PD

Entrance fees: Adults: 50p, Children: FREE, Parking is FREE.
The Boot Sale is open to buyers from 9am, The sellers Stalls can be set from 8am.

More info :
The Better Boots Website.
